Issues: Education

Education decisions should be made by states and counties in cooperation with parents, not bureaucrats in Washington, DC. While the federal government's control over education has increased since 1979, test scores and academic outcomes have grown worse. This trend must be reversed.

Destructive programs such as Common Core, No Child Left Behind, and Race to the Top serve as evidence that the government's involvement is less about education and excellence and more about control and equality.

I believe in a parent's right to homeschool if they determine it is the best method for educating their child. Having volunteered my time to teach homeschoolers Economics in my local community, I have seen firsthand the benefits homeschooling offers both parents and children.

In addition to fighting for educational choices for parents, I will also work to remove the fiscal and moral hazard of a government controlled student loan program by returning the loan program to the private sector with necessary reforms.

As your Congressman, I will fight to end federal control of education, return critical decision-making power to states and local communities, and repeal Common Core.
